May 1 call to Chris Smith
Indivisible NJ4 Coordinated Call Mon. 5/1 - RISE UP!
Background: The lack of a concise, fair, and rational immigration policy is destroying families and denying individuals their right of due process. Trump’s policy has unleashed ICE agents from restrictions resulting in a 20% increase in deportations in NJ. The right of the individual to due process is circumvented by quickly deporting the individual. Local police are designated de facto ICE agents and assisting in the deportation.
Let's call Congressman Smith's office in D.C. at 202-225-3765 around 10:00AM
Caller: Hello, I am a constituent of Rep. Smith’s; may I speak with the staffer who handles immigration?”
Staffer: .................
Caller: Today there are many events dedicated to the fair treatment of undocumented immigrants in our country. It is time for a leader to rise up and lead the effort in development of a rational, fair, bipartisan plan for immigration including undocumented individuals. This leader could be Congressman Smith. Most undocumented immigrants are hard-working individuals and not criminals. They are parents and students with close ties to the community and some have even served in the military. The mass deportations, the denial of due process, and the inclusion of local law enforcement goes against Congressman Smith’s support of human rights and the basic beliefs of our democracy. Congressman Smith it is time to speak out against Trump’s policies on immigration.
If you have a personal story to relate to this issue, and are comfortable sharing it, please do - our elected officials want to hear how their policies affect our lives!
